Hello! The year is passing quickly as we continue to work towards the goal of learning new math concepts and of applying of those concepts. In addition, the students are continually reviewing, relearning, and gaining greater understanding of concepts and applying previously learned math skills during class, intensive recovery, after school tutorials, and homework sheets. Teaching test-taking skills for mathematical problem-solving, mental preparation before and during the exam, and common 'traps' to prepare for or avoid is also a goal. An important goal is for students to learn through hard work and learning about their own learning styles and strengths to achieve success. It is through their success that they learn to believe in themselves and gain confidence in their ability to achieve in math.
We are fortunate to have the Sharon Wells Math Curriculum in sixth grade for your children. I feel that it has been successful in helping students succeed in learning a large amount of new math concepts and higher level problem solving during their first year at middle school. As we move forward during the next nine weeks, your child will be working hard to continue their pace of learning.
Teaching this years' group of sixth graders has been a joy, and I know they appreciate the support you have given them throughout the year. If you have any questions or concerns, please call anytime!
